Password requested using custom formats due to file saved with password.
Cause:
Excel prompts for password when the user tries to select the 'User-Defined' option in the 'AutoFormat' dialog box. The problem occurs because XL5GALRY.XLS is saved with a password. This file contains all custom chart formats and Excel tries to access and display them when the 'User-Defined' radio button is being selected. If the file is saved with a password, the password will be requested.
Solution:
Remove all passwords from the file.
1) Open the file XL5GALRY.XLS located in the XLSTART folder:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The Open dialog box appears.)
b) Locate and open the XLSTART folder.
c) Select the file.
d) Click 'Open'. (A dialog box appears prompting for a password.)
e) If the protection password was set:
1] Type the protection password in the 'Password' box.
2] Click 'OK'.
f) If the write-reservation password was set:
1] Type the write-reservation password in the 'Password' box.
2] Click 'OK'. (The file opens.)
2) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...'. (The Save As dialog box appears.)
3) Click 'Options...'. (The Save Options dialog box appears.)
4) Delete all the passwords in the 'File Sharing' group.
a) Delete the password, if any, in the 'Protection Password' box.
b) Delete the password, if any, in the 'Write Reservation Password' box.
5) Click 'OK'. (The Save As dialog box reappears.)
6) Locate and open the XLSTART folder.
7) Type the same filename in the 'File name' drop-down list box.
8) Click 'Save' tosave the changes.
9) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to close the file.
